What I Love About Having Dreadlocks

It’s been 1 year and 6 months since I  started my dreadlocks. I have had many different hairstyles in my life, but dreads seem to be the best look for me. I love the natural look of dreads and seeing dreads becoming more common to have in society is great.

Before I had dreadlocks I would always have to comb my hair before I left the house, I was so eager to having the perfect look. Now I don’t have to do much besides make my hair neater simply by just moving my hair out my face or putting it up in a bun. Although I love the simple and easy look of having dreads, I also love styling my hair in ponytails and getting creative with other looks, such as braids. Dreadlocks will give you a lot of patience because when you first start them you realize that they don’t happen over night, it will take a few months before you will see any results. This gave me time to forget about my hair and realize that my hair isn’t a big deal, eventually I started seeing my hair knot up together and the dreadlocks began!

My inspiration

Bob Marley

Bob Marley inspired many people to get dreadlocks. As a kid I always loved his hair and his positive music. Bob Marley is probably one of the main reasons why I decided to get dreadlocks. What I love most about Bobs dreads is that they are free formed dreads, meaning that he didn’t do force manipulatation with his hair, having free form dreads will give you a unique look.

Most people I know that have dreadlocks are very positive people. What I love most about people with dreads is that they can have a cool story behind them or a amazing reason on why they wanted them. For me, having dreadlocks can be a spiritual journey. Although it’s just hair I still love how people see their dreads in a positive, spiritual way of life.

I’m glad that I started my Dreadlock journey. Having this hairstyle has got me a lot of compliments and I even inspired people to getdreads too. I don’t feel that my hair is a journey anymore, my hair is more of a lifestyle now and my identity!

5 Things That I Learned From My Spiritual Journey

For about 1 year I started to become more serious about my spirituality views about life. Spirituality has really changed my life and helped me understand myself more.
1. Positivity

Everyday I try to remain positive no matter how bad the day can get.
2. I stopped arguing with people

Argueing has been a issue in the past, overcoming this and realizing that there is no need for me to prove someone wrong has been good for me lately, instead of trying to get my last words in a negative situation I’ll to try understand where the other person is coming from. Not letting arguments and negative conversation in my life has made me into a more positive person and I learned to respect people even when I’m not getting the respect back.
3. Remaining present during stressed times

Usually I would dwell on the past or worry about the future, instead I get myself in the present moment and focus on what is going on now instead of worrying about the possibilities of the future, this had helped me with achieving certain goals and stopped procrastinating.
4. Meditating

Meditating has helped me become more positive and happier. I cleared my mind from things that didn’t matter and made me get a chance to see what really matters and what I thought that mattered but was a issue that I had to solve
5. Letting go

Letting go and moving on was something very big on me, I started forgiving myself and others, soon I stopped blaming people for things and started to accept that I cannot change and the best thing is to seek new and better opportunities in life.

5. Open minded

I have started to become more open minded in life! Instead of not seeing interest in activities or people that I didn’t know much about I began to explore my boundaries by trying new hobbies and listening to what other cultures and groups had to say.
Still On My Journey

Knowledge is power, remaining to stay focused on the positive aspect of life is key. I’m continuing to learn, and I feel that my spiritual journey is improving each day. I don’t have a specific goal in this, I will like to see how things will change in the future without dedicating my whole life on it, eventually I feel that this journey wouldn’t be so much of a Journey much longer, but a lifestyle that I will soon adapt to naturally.

8 things I learned from yoga

Bringing yoga into my life showed me a different lifestyle. Yoga helped me external and internal. Below I will discuss the positive effects that yoga has on me.

1. Flexibility

Before practing yoga I couldn’t touch my toes while attempting to bend down. Yoga has shown me that it’s possible to become flexible and the more you practice the more the results will show

2. Yoga is similar to meditation

Yoga can really bring yourself into a meditation mind state. As I learned yoga, I noticed that I was mediating as I was listening to my yoga instructer with my eyes closed and in a mediation sitting position. This made me love learning yoga more and noticed how peaceful it was.

3. My breathing improved

I learned that breathing is huge yoga, there are yoga breathing methods to help you breathe better, for the past weeks I have noticed that I should breathe steady especially during other activities.

4. My stress reduced

Being stressed out is not good at all. Yoga has brought me into a less stresssed out mindset showing me that you don’t need to stress and that yoga will help you think more positive about life.

5. Brought me into the present moment

Like meditating, yoga can be very similar. I noticed that I was more present, focusing on my breathing while having my eyes closed really improved my mind.

6. More tone in my muscles

I never thought that yoga can do so many things for me. Bringing yoga into my life has shown me that the practice can help tone up muscles and also strengthen bones.

7. Improved posture

As I continued my yoga practice I noticed that my posture has improved. Sitting in a chair for hours or in bed can have a effect on your body. Yoga has helped my straighten my back and sit in better positions.

8.  Became happier

Yoga has shown me to appreciate my life more. I started to see things differently and my way of thinking changed, I became more positive and started doing new activities.

Yoga is a great experience and a positive lifestyle!

Yoga has made my life more positive in many ways. I will continue to practice yoga, I’m excited for anything new yoga has to offer me.

5 things that I learned about meditating

Meditation has became a huge part of my life ever since I started and ever since I began meditating I realized a lot about life and became more humble.

1. I became present in the moment

By mediation I was able to put everything aside and focus on the moment. While learning this experience I noticed that I was overthinking about the future instead of being happy for the moment and that there isn’t anything to worry about besides how you are feeling in the moment.

2. I controlled my anger

Losing my temper and letting people argue with me has always been there, controlling my temper has really changed. Instead of me getting angry I noticed that it can become a endless cycle and being mad at someone and argueing will do nothing for you, the best thing I learned was to move forward and forgive people.

3. I saw more beauty in life

Mediating can calm a person down and make people see the world differently. I paid more attention to nature and taking time out of my day to love more

4. I became very motivated in a positive way

I was more inspired to follow my dreams and got strongly motivated to do new things in life. I also learned to control myself more and be more realistic and remain positive instead of overthinking I remained present through too much thinking.

5. I started sleeping better

My sleep schedule has definitely has improved, I wasn’t overthink and stuck in my head. I realized that I was too anxious before I went to sleep that it kept me up. Meditating before sleeping is a great idea and will help you sleep better.
Meditating is key

Meditating has been a great benefit in my life and is now a hobby that I use very often, it helped me stop stressing and learned to not overthink. Mediating is great for becoming in the present moment and not focusing on the past or future, but what is happening as of now.
