7 things I’ve learned about going vegan

My experience with going vegan really showed me a different world. I’ve gone two months with a plant based diet. I still have interest with the diet and lifestyle which has changed my way of thinking. Eating a vegan diet will definitely show a positive change in your life!


1. I started to feel healthy.

As I began my first week with going vegan I quickly realized that I felt better, it helped me go through my day feeling more energetic by getting things done smoother. I was also more relaxed and clear minded.



2. My acne was going away.

Growing up, I always had acne. For years I wondered why I always had that nasty pimple…yuck! Going vegan helped me realized that I was eating bad junk food. Eating more fruits and vegetables and less junk food showed a lot of results of my skin clearing up.

3. Being peaceful of all life.

Before going vegan I would see insects such as roaches, flys, and spiders in my personal space and would try to hit them. Now I try to get them out of my way without harming them and take them outside instead.

4. Going vegan inspired me to work out more!

Since I was eating healthy I figured why not exercise and become physically healthy. I started becoming more motivated and felt even better!



5. Exposed to new food recipes.

I was getting more in the kitchen and learning different ways to create a delicious vegan meal! I was more open to cooking learning recipes that I never knew of.



6. More in touch with nature.

The vegan experience really had a great effect on my life. I was drawn more into nature and started hiking more. Understanding that we can live peaceful in nature with animals is key and getting more in nature is amazing for humans.

7. I’m open minded

The vegan experience has certainly opened my mind. I was more interested in learning about new lifestyles and getting the most out of the world and understanding what I really want to do and what do I want to try. Being a vegan made me feel more healthier and I continue to add a vegan meal in my diet. Going vegan is a great option in life and will give you a amazing experience.

    The part where you mentioned that you have become more kind and peaceful reminds me of Qing era Upasaka An Shi’s Discourse on Humane Living, here is a portion of the foreword:

    “As animals have no recourse against the never-ending slaughter, they must
    silently swallow their grievances. This leads to a dismal atmosphere of mounting evil
    karma. Eventually, as the evil karma of killing accumulates to the limit, demon kings
    will descend into the human realm as a response.

    The Zen Master Ci Shou once said: “As a result of the sin of animal slaughter,
    violence and wars will break out. Those who have taken life will in turn lose their
    lives. Those who have maliciously refused to repay their debts will lose their homes
    in the chaos. Furthermore, those who have destroyed burrows and nests will have
    their family members scattered. Each sin will result in the appropriate retribution.
    Thus, do not fail to heed the Buddha’s words.”

    Therefore, violence and wars are caused by the evil karma of killing. If we are
    faced with impending violence or conflict, the only recourse is to abstain from killing.
    The merits from such abstinence is the most potent and materializes speedily. Other
    good deeds cannot match it. ”

  2. Thoughtful. I have been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for forty years. I am 73 at this time.

  3. When I was 19 I worked in a bookstore. A co-worker and friend said “I know you truly love animals.” Of course! I said (we three kids grew up with everything from homing pigeons to snakes to dogs – even a praying mantis – and I loved them all). He then handed me “Animal Liberation” by Peter Singer saying “then why do you eat them?”

    There was a lot of misinformation back then re: balancing amino acids (you DON’T need to worry about that) etc. So after being vegan for a while I went back to eating chicken and fish. Then John Robbins book “Food Revolution” came out, and believe me, you can’t read that without going vegan.

    Ever since becoming vegan I feel healthier, happier, and I haven’t gotten sick since becoming completely vegan (I used to get sick 3-5x per year). I used to be constipated and discovered the truth behind “vegans are #1 at #2.” And it feels wonderful knowing I’m not contributing to the ‘animal Auschwitz’ horrendous cruelty that goes on every day for millions of poor, innocent animals.

    I’m never going back. I just wish more people would open themselves up to at least one day a week meatless, and progress from there. Going ‘cold turkey’ (excuse the pun) isn’t a good idea, as your body detoxes on a vegan diet. Do it gradually and feel better!!!

  4. This surely is inspiring. I’m thinking about going vegan as well. Although I probably have to wait until after Christmas (a lot of meat-based food in Sweden during the holiday season)…

    Do you find that you still have cravings for “normal”, non-vegan food sometimes? I’ve never had a big appetite for vegetables etc., so I’m a bit worried I might always think of non-vegan food as tastier… and then I don’t really see the point. But maybe the tastebuds have a way of adapting themselves after a while.
